The Economy

I am a strong fiscal conservative, and the current level of government spending is out of control and will bankrupt the nation. America's economic picture is bleak and the politicians in Washington continue to pass legislation that increases the debt and imperils the future of our children and future generations.

Too many people are riding in the wagon for those who are pulling the wagon. We must stop the increasing entitlements, and make cuts to some wasteful programs and departments that are duplicating  services or have little value.

Government

Spending

Calvin Coolidge once said, "After all, the chief  business of the American people is business." Entrepreneurs and established businesses create jobs that stimulate the economy. It is the responsibility of the government to provide an economic environment where businesses can thrive and create jobs so the economy can grow.

Only 8% of the people in the current Administration have a business background, and they obviously have no idea how to stimulate the economy.  Electing more lawyers and professional politicians to attempt to fix the economy is like sending in circus clowns to put out a fire. They may throw some paper at it and run around acting like they know what they are doing,  but without the proper tools and knowledge, the structure will still go down in flames.

Health Care

The recently passed health care bill will eventually prove to be disastrous to our health care system and will bankrupt America. The current bill must be repealed and replaced with a more targeted approach that will address the problems in the current system, without a government takeover of our health care. To stall the bill until we elect a President who will repeal and replace it, I signed the DEFUND IT.org Pledge to Defund Obamacare.

Immigration

We must immediately secure our borders as a matter of national security.  America is a nation of immigrants, and I believe immigrants renew and revitalize the American spirit, but we have to ensure those who come to this country do so legally.  The laws that are currently in place are not being enforced by the Federal government, which is placing an enormous burden on state resources at a time when state governments are already economically challenged.

Life

I am strongly pro-life; except in the rare, but traumatic case, of forcible rape, incest involving a minor, or if a pregnancy is a threat to the mother's life.  I believe we should encourage women who are faced with an unplanned pregnancy to choose adoption as a noble alternative, giving an opportunity to bring joy to a couple who desperately want a child, but cannot have one of their own.

The  2nd Amendment

I am a strong proponent of the right to bear arms. Our Founding Fathers knew that in order to secure our freedom, the people must retain the power to defend themselves against those who would threaten our liberties.

The Constitution

As a Representative of the People, I will always uphold your Constitutional rights, and I will defend the Constitution against those who would try to ignore, alter or pass legislation that is contrary to it.  You have my solid vow on that.

Garry's Position on the Issues

Energy

The recent situation in the Gulf of Mexico is extremely regrettable, and is the result of poor energy policies in Washington. Deep ocean drilling would not be necessary if we ended restrictions to drill in areas such as ANWAR and shallower waters where oil drilling would be safer and easier to contain.

We must also look at increasing our use of alternative fuel sources such as nuclear energy and clean coal technology, as well as alternative fuel sources that do not require Federal subsidies to be feasible.

America has always lead the way in finding new energy sources and technologies, and we must begin to look at all our options to meet our future energy requirements.

Defense

I believe America must maintain a strong defense against the threat posed by those who would like to see our way of life destroyed. I agree with Ronald Reagan's philosophy of "peace through strength."  We must also maintain strong ties with our allies, (especially Israel), who are key in helping us guard against those nations that would seek to do harm to us or the rest of the world.
